RE:

Publication Design

2020.3

As an agenda, RE: is a response to changes in the context of post-Brexit Europe created for an audience of designers, more broadly. An experience, it is intended to act as a tool that will facilitate progress with adaptability, in the modern day era of incessant evolution, change and confusion.

The starting point to developing our design conecpt began with working on the letterpress that allowed us with quite a hands- on approach to experimenting with layers and textures.

Of the many prints produced in the letterpress workshop, here is a range of outcomes. In an effort to represent the purity of geometric shapes, we played around with layout and composition using techniques such as overlay and repetition.

Agenda Package Design

The Colour orange signifies change. The most prominent throughout the agenda is also the colour of the start and end pages of the book. The outside is designed to appear simplistic for it to harmonize in contrast to the burst of colours the inside holds. The cover design represents progress through a circle that is ever-evolving.

The box performs a dual function; as packaging for the agenda to go into and as a DIY desk calendar as well.

Book Cover

The dates around the circle are intended to be debossed onto the front and back cover paper i.e. Munken Lynx 400 g/m2. Similarly, the Munken logo is to be debossed on the bottom.

Chapter Design of Agenda

Inspired by letterpress, these visuals introduce a monthly start. Each month is designed around a stage of rediscovery as a process of finding clarity in the uncertain. You can observe the circles, and let them speak to you as they become clearer towards the end. This is a moment of inspiration and introspection. The visual language of each month embraces a way of positivity through words of wisdom or a spark of the question, as an invitation for you to push yourself further towards achieving short-term goals set out at the start of each month.

The monthly spread at the start of each month allows some extra space for organisation and planning of the weeks ahead. The lines provided on the side facilitate for an easier flow of writing directed by the 45° angle- convenient if you have to write in a tight spot, like on an airplane.

Weekly Spread

Setting a clear start to the week, each weekly spread is divided into two pages. Blur on the numbers draws its association from the every day being taken upon as a challenge coming from the unknown, progressing from uncertainty to clarity.

In the beginning, in the middle and at end of the year, the wheel of wellness provides a way for areas of improvement to be worked upon.

Towards the end of each weekly spread, there is space for drawings, notes or bullet lists to be used. The typeface used throughout the book is known as Zeitung, created by Underware. Its round character fits seamlessly with the fluid and organic nature of our visual language.

2021 Yearly Overview Pages

Functioning on practicality in congruence with our design concept, the yearly overview celebrates 150 years of the Munken Mill. Each month is associated with a term that can be traced back to the bigger picture of one’s personal journey throughs self-rediscovery.

2022 Yearly Overview Pages

The overview of 2022 is where the 2021 agenda comes to an end. The arrows however, suggest that the journey of self-development keeps progressing as we continue to rediscover and introspect ourselves

The RE: symbol found in the corner of each page is consistent throughout. As you rapidly flip through the pages, the symbol will appear to animate by simulating motion, from one page to the next.
