In almost everyone’s childhood, there are experiences in playing in the zoo. Little black bears will wear lovely clothes to ride bicycles, elephants will sit on chairs, paint with paint, sea lions will do sit-ups and so on. Many tourists are attracted by the intelligence and mystery of animals and pay for their performances.

But the fact behind it is very cruel. When they were young, they used to hunger and whipping to force them to complete their tasks. Most of these behaviours are contrary to the original nature of animals and extremely cruel. Animals have become the tools of human interests. In the natural world, every living thing is equal. So I want to tell people through my works that we should learn to respect every life.

In zoos, humans, as trainers, force black bears to perform various kinds of movements. In private training, they will cuff their hands and feet, so that they maintain a standing posture for a long time, until they unlock their handcuffs, they dare not sit down. In the performance, the whips and the impact of the ground are used to deter them. Sometimes, in order to make them look more secure, they will put a leather mask on their faces. They look like a tortured prisoner.

To make the bear look more tactile and realistic. I used tweezers to make the bear’s fur. I make fine wire be a “S” shape and attach paper clay to it. I squeezed some little rivets on the whip to make it look more powerful.

I’ve tried a lot of different ways of composition, and I’ve got horizontal composition and vertical composition. I drew a draft, and then I drew a pencil sketch carefully. Two color schemes are tried.

The color of the illustration stands in stark contrast to the small, monochrome sculpture. I want to tell people that the fact that animals are trained in zoos is more brutal than it seems.
